Story

Kaya Palat is the story of “I becoming you and you becoming I”.
Chandra is the harried wife of Dhruv, an inventor, who goes into trances from time. Her plight is further compounded by Julfi, a domestic servant, who serves more shairi than omlettes, and an alcoholic brother, Janardhan, whose motto is “Jab tak jiyo bus piyo”

Mahesh, a friend of Dhruv, turns up one day. Dhruv gets very excited and shows him his inventions, one of which is the ‘thinking cap’. The cap is a conical device that produces a magnetic field which activates the brain of the person who wears it, hereby generating ideas.

Mahesh tries it on out of curiosity, with the help of Dhruv. However, they both collapse. When they wake up they realise that each is entrapped in the body of the other and the cap has vanished! This strange transformation throws Dhruv’s family into confusion. The rest of the play is all about how they get the cap back from the thief. Girija Babu, the inventor’s fan is the proverbial guinea pig for Dhruv, who tries out all his new inventions on him.
