Kalayan is a group of young men and women who love Hindi theatre.

The group was formed in 1988. Mathura Kalauny, the founder of the group is the principal force behind it. The Group has positioned itself as the local theatre organization in Bangalore engaged in producing quality Hindi plays. Most of the Kalayan artists are theatre enthusiasts working in various industries.

Staging a play in Bangalore, especially a Hindi Play, is a daunting task. Putting together a cast with good acting skills, previous stage experience and fluency in Hindi is tough. Kalayan Theatre Group regularly conducts customised training courses/ workshops for the artists before starting the rehearsals.

Over the years the group has built a vast reservoir of talented actors. Many of its members are pursuing successful careers as TV artists. Some have gone into Cinema.

The group has a following of 3000 plus audience who eagerly await the staging of every Kalayan production. They are generally young upwardly mobile executives and businessmen.

The group consists of dedicated stage artists and professional support staff. The strength of the group varies due to members changing jobs, moving away on transfers and marriages. When the group is not busy staging plays it meets once every two months for play reading, poetry recitation and just for being together.
