So believed Munshi Premchand , who was the first Hindi author to introduce social realism in his writings. He believed in social evolution, and his ideal was equal opportunities for all. Ek Shaam Premchand Ke Naam is an anthology of his short stories and stage adaptations of the same. A dark truth which keeps re-surfacing even in today’s India. Panch Parmeshwar- A story of responsible behavior, when you are put in a position of power. Poos Ki Raat- A story of a poor farmer who struggles to ward off the bitter cold of winter nights, with only his dog for company. Literature according to Premchand, is a powerful means of educating public opinion. Imagine a case of switched identity – what would switching your life with your long last friend feel like? And therein lies the humorous tale of Dhruv the ahem … Inventor. Dhruv switches lives with his friend due to a quirk of fate, and now doesn’t even know his own house! Bringing up the rear are a crazy family – the harried wife, a philosophical brother and a house help with a poetic inclination. And of course, there’s the lovelorn girl-next-door, and wait … even a petty thief. The play transports the audience to the magic reaches of imagination with its unique plot witty dialogues, truly hilarious situations and unforgettable characters. Kayapalat is pure fun! |
